Chevron Australia, a subsidiary of Chevron Corporation, has discovered around 67m of net gas pay in the Satyr-4 exploration discovery well.
The well, located in the WA-374-P1 permit area about 120km north-west of Barrow Island, is in the Greater Gorgon area of the Carnarvon Basin, offshore Australia. The well has been drilled to a total depth of 4,579m in 1,088m of water.
"This latest discovery is a further demonstration of how we are achieving superior success from a focused and high-impact exploration programme in a key hydrocarbon basin," said George Kirkland, Chevron Corporation vice-chairman.
Chevron Asia-Pacific exploration and production president Melody Meyer said: "Satyr-4 further underscores Chevron’s continuing success in this prolific block and supports our long-term growth plan for the Gorgon Project – and our goal to be a leading LNG supplier to the Asia-Pacific region."
Chevron Australia is the operator of the WA-374-P permit with a 50% interest, while other co-partners include Shell (Australia) and Mobil Australia Resources Company, each holding a 25% stake respectively.
US-based Chevron is an integrated energy company, with various subsidiaries that conduct business worldwide. The company explores, produces and transports crude oil and natural gas, as well as also being involved in refining markets, and the distribution of transportation fuels and lubricants.
