Cavico Corp has announced that its newly formed subsidiary Vietravico has won a US$36.6M contract for civils works on the Ta Thang hydro power scheme in Vietnam.

The civils works on the project include a tunnel, dam and access road in Lao Cai province. Work is scheduled to take 42 months from the commencement of construction in early 2008.

Ta Thang is a 60MW project to be built near Bao Thang village, more than 380km north of Hanoi.

Vietravico was set up by Cavico and Vietracimex, a state-owned construction company which is operated by Vietnam’s Ministry of Transportation. Vietracimex is also the investor in the Ta Thang hydro scheme, which has a total budget of US$77.5M.

Cavico said in a statement it was aligning itself with strategic partners who are focused on rapid growth of infrastructure development in Vietnam.
