The announcement was made by Rob Moore, MP for Fundy Royal, and the Honourable Mike Murphy, Minister of Justice and Consumers Affairs. This project is just one example of the commitment to working in partnership to create jobs and build stronger and brighter futures for communities in New Brunswick.
“Our federal investment of $1.4 million will assist the Town in upgrading important wastewater infrastructure and will help Riverview develop new residential and commercial areas,” said MP Moore. “The Government of Canada recognizes that modern, reliable infrastructure can improve quality of life, attract business and create jobs today and for years to come.”
“The Province is very pleased to join with our federal colleagues in investing $2.8 million in Riverview,” said Murphy. “The Town of Riverview is using the funding to construct a new sanitary pumping station, gravity trunk mains and force mains.”
The funding will allow development along the newly built Gunningsville Boulevard and reduce the current demands on an existing station located on Pine Glen Road.
“The Town of Riverview is very pleased with the announcement of provincial and federal partnership on this waste water project. Significant investments have been made in the construction of Gunningsville Boulevard with the intention of opening up new land mass for commercial and residential development,” said Riverview Mayor Clarence Sweetland. “The completion of this waste water project is necessary to realize that goal, and for that reason we appreciate federal and provincial participation which will enable us to do this work. We need to be able to continue growth in Riverview and this will ensure that we will be in a position to do so.”
This project is one of 32 across the province that will get underway, thanks to a joint federal-provincial investment of more than $48 million announced on July 24, 2009. The governments of Canada and New Brunswick have taken steps to advance projects and flow money faster for targeted infrastructure projects in New Brunswick communities in the 2009 and 2010 construction seasons.
The Government of Canada’s Economic Action Plan is accelerating and expanding the existing federal investment of $33 billion in infrastructure with almost $12 billion in new infrastructure stimulus funding over two years. The Government of Canada and the Province of New Brunswick are working closely together to ensure that these infrastructure funds are being spent on priority projects across the province.
