The donors of the project felt that the project will fill in the energy deficit, which was important not just for Cameroon but the entire Central African region.

“I must declare with the satisfaction that you see on my lips that funding for Lom Pangar dam project has been unlocked,” Cameroon’s Minister for Economy, Planning and Regional Development Louis Paul Motaze said.

Afriland First Bank and Standard Chartered Bank will provide bridging loans. The Douala Stock Exchange will work to save public offer within a reasonable time limit.

The Cameroon government has estimated the cost of the project as XAF150 billion. The work on the project had begun in 1990.

The donors have demanded a proper accounting system and an environmental and social impact assessment study before the money is invested by them in the said project.
