Sellafield Ltd is seeking to place a contract for the Design Completion, Procurement, Manufacture, Inspection and Testing, support to Sellafield Ltd Integrated Testing, Civil Construction, Installation and support through Sellafield Ltd Inactive Commissioning to complete the Box Transfer Facility. Sellafield is responsible for safely delivering decommissioning, reprocessing and nuclear waste management activities on behalf of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA). The safe decommissioning of redundant nuclear facilities is an essential aspect of the UK’s civil nuclear programme and the Sellafield site has a number of challenging programmes that Sellafield must deliver to realise the Sellafield Plan, one of which is the Magnox Swarf Storage Silos (MSSS) programme which the Box Transfer Project (BTF) is part of. The BTF Project is an integral component of the MSSS programme that will deliver the capability to transfer treated and immobilised waste from the Silos Direct Encapsulation Plant (SDP) to interim safe storage. The MSSS Programme and BTF Project are aligned to the strategic objectives of site restoration through remediation of hazardous materials from the legacy of early defence programmes, first generation reprocessing and waste handling facilities located at Sellafield.
Sellafield wishes to appoint a contractor (possibly in a consortium with others) to complete the BTF project, further details of which can be found in the Memorandum of Information within the pre qualification questionnaire instructions.
