Babcock’s new Lyon office is working with EDF’s nuclear decommissioning and environmental division, Centre d’Ingénierie de Déconstruction et Environement (CIDEN).

The company is also engaging with two French engineering companies for subcontracts for specific tasks.

Babcock was previously engaged with EDF to deliver a design study for the dismantling of the gas cooled graphite reactor at Bugey.

Currently, the company is also now responsible for delivering similar projects for two other gas cooled reactors at Chinon and St Laurent.

Babcock has also secured a contract to deliver a feasibility study for the treatment of contaminated alkali metals and three pre-qualifications to undertake decommissioning work on the nuclear site of Creys-Malville, also known as Superphénix.
