American Transmission Co (ATC) has restored transmission lines that bring electricity into the western two-thirds of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, which experienced an electric system outage.

The transmission outage occured when lighting struck two 138,000-volt power lines that move electricity into the Upper Peninsula from Wisconsin, US.

A third transmission connection was also out of service for planned maintenance, the company said.

ATC coordinated the systematic restart of the electric system with local utilities serving Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

ATC owns, operates, builds and maintains a high-voltage electric transmission system serving portions of the US states of Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota and Illinois.
