Mount Gellibrand wind farm is being developed with an investment of about €183m, enabling Acciona to expand its renewable energy capacity in the country.
Acciona will develop and operate the new wind facility, which is situated 65km west of Geelong and 25km east of Colac.
At the wind facility, Acciona will install 44 Nordex AW125/3000 wind turbines, which feature a rotor sweep of 125m and can be installed on an 87.5m steel tower.
Once operational, the new facility is expected to generate about 429GWh of electricity per annum that can power 60,000 hosue holds in the region.
The electricity generated at the Mt. Gellibrand wind project will be sold in the wholesale electricity market.
Under public tender process, the Victorian Government had agreed to purchase renewable energy certificates generated from 66MW of Mt Gellibrand Wind Farm in 2016. The deal enables the government to purchase certificates for up to 10 years.
The project is expected to create around 100 jobs during construction phase.
Acciona Energy Oceania managing director Andrew Thomson said: “We are very pleased to have achieved viability for 132 MW of wind power capacity in Victoria, which will mean higher investment, more jobs and a greater contribution of clean energy to the community, within our clear growth strategy in the country.”
Currently, Acciona operates 302.5MW wind projects in Australia, The projects operated include 64MW Cathedral Rocks project in South Australia, 192MW Waubra project in Victoria and 46.5MW project in New South Wales.
In addition, the company is currently involved in the development of wind power and photovoltaic projects in Australia.
