Switzerland-based power and automation technology group ABB has announced that the transformers delivered by the company will be used to power the Daocheng-Yading airport in the Sichuan Province, China.

Under the airport contract, the company has provided six Resibloc dry-type transformers rated at 5,860 kilovolt amperes (kVA) to facilitate the power distribution.

ABB designs its Resibloc distribution transformers to bear and resist the challenging environmental conditions such as extreme temperatures and very high altitudes, and requires minimal maintenance.

The dry-type transformers are made up of pure epoxy resin reinforced with glass fiber rovings and are regularly used to reduce contamination and fire risks to people.

The transformers can withstand extreme mechanical stress and thermal shock and are explosion resistant.

It can operate in temperatures as low as -60ºC or as high as 50ºC.

The transformers’ Resibloc design is flexible and the windings can be adjusted as per the customer’s specifications.

ABB Power Products division Transformers business head Markus Heimbach said, "These robust oil-free transformers are safe, reliable, cost-efficient and environmentally friendly with the strength to withstand thermal and mechanical stresses from severe climates, cyclical loads, and short circuit forces."
