ABB Substations, based in Västerås, Sweden, has received, together with ABB Venezuela, a substation order valued at approximately US$60M from Edelca, the state-owned power utility in Venezuela.

The project comprises three air-insulated substations, Las Claritas, El Callao II and Santa Elena for the voltages 400kV, 230kV, 115kV and 34.5kV. The substations will be built along the 700km-long transmission line under construction between Edelca’s Macagua II hydropower station on the Caroni river in Venezuela and Eletronorte’s 230kV substation in northern Brazil.

The order is the largest contract received by ABB in Venezuela, and will include high voltage apparatus from ABB in Ludvika.

The order is the third won by ABB recently from Venezuela’s Edelca and Cadafe utilities.
