The Peyton Creek project is located in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) south market and is powered by 48 of 3.15MW turbines supplied by the Nordex Group.

The wind farm is expected to begin operations before the end of 2019. The project is expected to generate adequate electricity to power more than 45,000 house-holds.

E.ON said that with the addition of Peyton Creek, it would have a total capacity of more than 4,000MW in the US.

E.ON North America chief operating officer Silvia Ortin said: “Peyton Creek will be our 24th wind project in North America and construction, along with our long-term operation of this project, will deliver clean, low-cost energy to South Texas and generate millions of dollars in tax revenue and land lease payments.

“We appreciate the support of the local community and are excited to significantly diversify the tax base and employment opportunities in the area.”

Matagorda County Economic Development Corporation Executive Director Mike Ferdinand said: “We welcome Peyton Creek Windfarm to the community. This project brings diversification to our local energy sector and creates new investment that will enhance our tax base. We wish them well as they begin construction and operation in our great county.”

In January 2019, E.ON commissioned and started commercial operations at its 201MW Stella wind farm, located onshore Kenedy County, South Texas. The project is expected to strengthen the company’s position in coastal wind projects.

The Stella wind farm consists of 67 Acciona AW-125 3.0MW turbines and is capable of producing electricity adequate to power more than 60,000 homes.

US-based Allianz Capital Partners provided tax equity financing for the project in exchange for a part of interest in the Stella project. The wind project created nearly 300 construction jobs.

The Stella wind farm is estimated to generate more than $25m in revenue for Kenedy County, and this additional revenue is expected to support essential county services and local schools.
