As a part of the refurbishment project at the 1st power block, the team at the Kalinin NPP has begun replacing the equipment of the main control room. As of now, the new panels and desks have already been installed. The mounting of computer facilities desks, the replacement of control and safety systems, and the laying of over two thousand kilometers of cables are in progress.

The main control room is a crucial part of the power block’s automatic process control system, where practical supervisory control and NPP equipment management are taking place.

According to Sergey Marov, the head of thermal instrumentation and measurements workshop of the Kalinin NPP, the upgraded automatic process control system concept is based on the technical instruments similar to those used at Russian and foreign 3+ generation power blocks: ‘This is a new level of operations providing far more information and extended self-diagnostics capabilities, which makes the whole system far more reliable’.

The home-produced equipment was designed at leading research and development labs of our country and manufactured using the most up-to-date technical and software solutions coupled with huge hands-on operational experience. Its obvious benefits are its portability, high level of automation and productivity, as well as the fact that it utilizes digital communication channels.

The Kalininskaya nuclear power plant is a branch of the Rosenergoatom. The station is located in the north of the Tver region in the Udomelskiy area. There are four power units with water-cooled power reactors (VVER-1000) with installed capacity of 1000 MW each in the structure of the Kalininskaya nuclear power station.
