The Spanish engineering and technology groups Tecnatom and SENER have been chosen by the Chinese utility company SPIC to carry out a digitization project called Smart Power Plant. Through this contract, both companies will help SPIC implement a new model to design, build and operate power plants that will combine the synergies of the different phases to optimize the timelines and costs over the course of the plant’s life.

UGTC, a subsidiary of the Chinese electricity giant SPIC, has chosen Spanish multinationals Tecnatom and SENER to launch a project called Smart Power Plant, the main goal of which is to optimize timelines and costs in every phase of the execution of power plant construction projects. This digitization project will also yield efficiency improvements in how the plants are operated and maintained, increasing production and availability while reducing costs.

This project is based on a solid foundation of digitization and artificial intelligence technologies that both companies have been incorporating into their product and service line-ups for years, and which have made them leaders in areas such as Digital Twin, the Internet of Things (IoT), Cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence applied to Machine Learning. By joining forces, the two companies provide an integrated vision that combines their extensive experience as specialists in EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction), operation and maintenance.

For Francisco Javier Guerra, CEO of Tecnatom, “the development of this project will allow us to support SPIC by improving process efficiency throughout the life cycle of its conventional power plants. This type of digital solution can also be applied in similar sectors, such as renewable energies, oil and gas and large structures.”

In this way, we want to contribute to the development of a new concept in power generation plants for SPIC that focuses on improving their production and availability, while reducing OPEX.”
