The SITA Cornwall’s Cornwall Energy Recovery Centre waste-to-energy facility is under construction at St. Dennis, located in the center of Cornwall County in southwest England.

Expected to commence operation in 2016, the facility can handle 240,000 tons of residual waste annually to generate sufficient electricity to power around 21,000 homes.

Under the contract, Yokogawa will supply the CENTUM VP integrated production control system and the ProSafe-RS safety instrumented system for the power plant.

The company will also engineer the facility’s automation systems in cooperation with VINCI Environment, which is the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) company for the waste-to-energy project.

Strict regulations on the landfill disposal of waste materials are being introduced in the UK and European countries, aimed at protecting the environment.
