Xinhuanet reported that anti-social elements placed a timer bomb along the main pipeline, which the Troops of the 39th Armored Brigade stationed in Shabwa’s outskirts later defused and averted a major disaster.

The 320km long gas pipeline connects the oil-producing Marib province to Yemen’s Belhaf export terminal in the Gulf of Aden.

The pipeline has been repeatedly attacked by certain militant groups. Armed forces have begun a search for the miscreants after the latest failed attempt.

Over 70% of Yemen’s budget comes from oil revenues, while oil and gas products make up 90% of the country’s exports.

Even though army has been deployed and high security measures are in place, attacks on the country’s major economic source continues.
