Construction of the Yangyang pumped storage project in South Korea's Gangwon province has been completed, with the 1000MW scheme dedicated in an official ceremony held on 12 September.

The project, operated by Korea Midland Power Corporation (Komipo), cost an estimated US$1.14B to construct and houses four 250MW units.

The project’s upper reservoir is located 937m asl, with it’s operating head of 817m being the largest in the country.
