A consortium led by Washington Infrastructure Services has won the contract for engineering services at the Hakkari dam and hydro plant in Turkey.

The contract, signed on 1 August 2001 in Ankara, follows a Turkish-American joint statement signed in February 2001. Other companies in the consortium include alstom Power (US) Dolsar Engineering and Kiska Construction (both Turkey).

The engineering services are expected to be completed in one year. The second phase will involve the construction and supply of electromechanical equipment.

The Hakkari dam is located on the Zap tributary of the Tigris river. It is a rockfill dam with a height of 170m, and a reservoir volume of 19Mm3.
