Australian retailer Woolworths will replace its paper-based shopper docket scheme with an electronic card following successful trials of the scheme in New South Wales, according to press reports.

The new system, called Everyday Rewards, will give customers an electronic swipe card making it more convenient to redeem rewards at petrol outlets. The retailer will introduce its discount cards over the next four months.

Customers will be able to swipe their card at the checkout, uploading information on their discount entitlement. They can then swipe their card at a petrol outlet to receive their discount.

The company has reportedly said that it expects an increase in fuel discount redemption rates and a boost to fuel sales at its 516 petrol stations as a result of the scheme.
