Germany-based Weltec Biopower has secured a contract from Belgian investor and project developer NPG Energy for the establishment of a biogas plant.

The proposed 2.4MW biogas facility, which will be located in the Belgian district of Limburg, is expected to become operational in spring 2014.

Operated by NPG Energy, the biogas facility will generate clean electricity that is enough to power around 5,000 households.

Weltec Biopower noted that the facility, with a capacity to generate 19GWh of energy annually, will cater to the energy needs of Spin-group.

According to the company, the biogas plant will have two bioreactors, with a capacity of 4,700m³ each, which will be fed with soap water from biodiesel production and cereals prune.

The plant will also feature stainless-steel digesters, a second-stage-digester and two 80m³ dosing feeders.
