Voith Hydro has secured a contract from Manitoba Hydro to refurbish three hydropower generators at the Kettle generating station in the Canadian province of Manitoba.

Under the contract, Voith will replace stator frames, new cores and windings as well as supply pole reinsulation services and install new coolers.

Each of the refurbished units will be rated at 120 MVA upon completion of the project.

The Kettle generating station features a total of twelve units with an installed capacity of 1,220MW at present.

Voith said the facility was commissioned in the early1970s and, after several years of reliable service, it will now undergo gradual rehabilitation to continue production of renewable energy production in the future.

Voith noted that the installed hydropower capacity amounts to 73GW in Canada and its share of the country’s total electricity supply is about 65%.
