Ontario Power Generation, the operator of the project, is overhauling the facility, which has been supplying electricity to the grid for more than a century.

Voith will supply the turbine runner, shaft and wicket gates for the Unit #8, and the overhaul will be completed in early 2012.

Voith Hydro Holding CEO Roland Muench said that refurbishing DeCew Falls means restoring valuable capacities for electricity generation from renewable energy sources for the 21st century.

"In times of rising energy demand, we can make a significant contribution to the security of supply by refurbishing plants," Muench said.
