Viridor, a UK-based recycling, renewable energy and waste management company, has won the tender for recycling and waste services at MediaCityUK, a Peel Media development located in Salford Quays, Greater Manchester.

The contract needs Viridor to utilize its recycling and energy recovery facilities in the North West England to optimize recycling and reduce landfill waste in MediaCityUK, which houses parts of Salford University and many hotels, restaurants and retail outlets and will be northern home to the BBC.

In addition to the local Viridor facilities that comprise recycling operations for plastics, glass, metal and electrical items in Merseyside, a variety of other recovery facilities will be used to ensure that waste to landfill is minimized.

Viridor, in collaboration with MediaCityUK, is also developing sustainable waste and recycling strategies that will focus upon residential training, resource optimization and carbon efficiency to further the region’s environmental sustainability.

Viridor regional manager Steve Newman said that Viridor is very pleased to have been chosen by MediaCityUK to provide essential recycling and recovery services to this fantastic new development.
