The contract placed for Los Cururos wind plant in Coquimbo, Chile, comprises 22 V100-1.8 MW and 35 V100-2.0 MW wind turbines.

EPM has also procured installation and commissioning of the turbines, along with its VestasOnline Business SCADA system and a 10-year Active Management Output (AOM) 4000 service agreement.

Commenting on the alliance, Empresas Públicas de Medellín CEO Esteban Calle Restrepo said that the company allotted the supply contract to Vestas looking at its 30 years experience.

Vestas Wind Systems chief sales officer Juan Araluce stated: "For us, this project represents our will to continue developing large wind power plants in South America over the next few years."

Meanwhile, the company has scheduled the delivery in the third quarter of 2013, with the commissioning of the wind power plant expected to be in the third quarter of 2014.

The Los Cururos wind power plant is estimated to have an annual production capacity of 290,000MWh besides reducing 119,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions on an annual basis.
