Mauritius Commercial Bank is to deliver mobile payment services to merchants with VeriFone's Vx 610 wireless system. Delivered in partnership with network operator Emtel, this is the first mobile payment system to be marketed by a bank in Mauritius.

Using the portable Vx 610, card transactions are no longer tied to a countertop and a telephone line. The wireless handheld device enables transactions to be processed via general packet radio service (GPRS) networks and allows new points of payment to be set up anywhere.

VeriFone says that this enhances the customer experience in hospitality environments, such as restaurants, and delivering greater payment convenience for a range of retail services, including home delivery.

The Vx 610 offers enhanced security features with 3DES encryption and has been EMV-approved.

Our Vx 610 portable powerhouse is delivering real benefits and opening new market segments for our customers across this region, said Nigel Bidmead, managing director for VeriFone EMEA.
