Swedish utility Vattenfall is planning to participate in the tender processes for hydropower concessions in France, which are expected to commence beginning 2011.

According to the company, France has an installed hydropower capacity of 25GW at present, and will add 5.3GW of concessions until 2015.

Vattenfall aims to obtain a substantial share of the capacity tendered until 2015.

The company said that its aim is to grow within renewable energy, and the upcoming opportunities within hydropower in France falls well within this scope.

In line with its new strategic direction, it plans to grow in low emitting CO2 energy generation.
