Areas under the project include Cove, Arizona; Casamero Lake, New Mexico; and near Church Rock, New Mexico, expected to be cleaned by November 2012.

EPA will execute the project in partnership with the Environmental Protection Agency of Navajo Nation with funds obtained from responsible parties.

The Cove area will be first cleaned at a cost of $1.5m in four to six weeks; contaminated soil at the area will be transferred from one transfer station to another for sealing and stabilizing.

EPA will utilize $1.65m to cleanup the region near Casamero Lake, New Mexico with contamination from the Section 32 Mine. Cleanup includes consolidating and sealing the scattered contaminated soils.

The agency will conduct air quality monitoring during the process to avoid dust contamination and all areas will be fenced until a final disposal site is identified.
