Available from JW Fishers of the US is the Fishers RMD-1, a complete underwater metal detection system that, according to the company, can be attached to almost any ROV or towed underwater vehicle.
The RMD-1 can locate and track underwater pipes and cables and find lost propellers and dredge heads. Designed to work with ROVs, the RMD-1’s dual coil design has been developed to offer high immunity to the electrical noise generated by the ROV’s motors and electronics. The coil set is mounted on nonmetallic struts extending in front of the ROV and will detect large metal objects more than 1.5m away. The standard coil size is 10in by 16in with larger coils available with greater detection range.
