The well, located in the Turkana County of Kenya Block 10BB, encountered oil and gas shows over a gross interval of 140m from a depth of 1,800m to 1,940m.
The Ngamia prospect forms the first site to be tested as part of a multi-well drilling campaign in Kenya and Ethiopia.
The well will now be drilled to a depth of 2,700m for a further three weeks and then logged and sampled.
Tullow Oil as the operator holds a 50% stake in Kenya’s Block 10BB and Africa Oil holds the remaining stake.
