The delivery is a part of a contract awarded by China International Water & Electric, a unit of China Three Gorges, for the hydro power plant.

The contract scope included supply of three 60MW hydro turbines and three 68.8MVA generators for the project.

Toshiba installed splitter runner type turbines, which feature long and short blades arranged alternately for high head at the facility.

Nam Ngiep 2 Power Company, a joint venture between China International Water & Electric Corporation (CWE) and Electricite du Laos (EDL) is developing the project.

The $345m project, is 90% owned by CWE while the remaining stake is held by EDL.

Power generated from the Nam Ngiep 2 project will be sold to EDL to feed into the national power grid, reported Baomoi.com.

Toshiba has supplied over 2,000 hydro power units with over 56,000MW generating capacity around the world.

EDL managing director Sisavath Thiravong earlier said that the plant is likely to generate about $43.38m revenue per year.

The project, which has a concession period of 25 years, has a capacity to generate 723 million kWh per of electricity annually.
