Working with PCP Architects and Tim Stower & Partners on behalf of client, Alstom Power, Tolent’s first contract at Staythorpe power station involved the construction of workshop and stores, administration and control building, gatehouse and oil lube store. The GBP5m development was handed over last month and Tolent has now commenced on the next phase, an external works package for the entire site.

A spokesman of Alstom Power said: “We were very impressed by Tolent’s work on the first phase. They were very proactive in their problem solving and responded promptly and amicably to any issued raised.

“The quality of Tolent’s finish is excellent and their overall performance on the first phase was undoubtedly a factor in the award of the latest external works contract.”

The Staythorpe development will provide a new 1650MW power station with a combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) station using advanced technologies to maximise efficiency and minimise environmental impact.

Located on a brownfield site that housed the two previous coal stations, the industrial facility will comprise four generating units, each around 400MW, with the combined ability to generate power for almost two million homes. In total, the new power station is expected to bring around GBP10m into the local economy every year.
