The Clean Energy Council’s revised Solar Retailer Code of Conduct was granted reauthorisation by the ACCC yesterday.
Clean Energy Council Code of Conduct Manager Anna Sexton said the scheme works to improve standards in the solar industry by requiring ethical sales practices and a standard five-year warranty on products and workmanship.
"The Clean Energy Council introduced the Approved Solar Retailer scheme almost two years ago to help raise the bar in the solar industry and give consumers peace of mind and confidence when buying from participating businesses," Ms Sexton said.
"Solar retailers must meet a very strict set of requirements in order to be accepted to the scheme, and consumers can be assured that they are dealing with the best in the solar business when purchasing from a company displaying the ‘Approved Solar Retailer’ logo.
"The revised scheme now covers providers of solar leases and solar power purchasing agreements, reflecting developments in the industry to offer new finance models to consumers.
"Clean Energy Council Approved Solar Retailers must follow rigorous pre- and post-sale requirements, including ethical sales practices, a standard five-year warranty on the entire solar system and thorough explanation and documentation of what the customer is signing up for," she said.
