Voith Siemens Hydro Power Generation has handed over its fifth generating unit to the Three Gorges hydro power plant in China.

The unit is now being connected to the grid for a second operational testing phase to last 30 days. With a current headwater level of 135m, the unit is able to operate at a capacity of 560MW.

After the end of the rainy period in October, when the headwater level is expected to exceed 138m, the unit will be able to run at a minimum of 580MW, says Voith Siemens Hydro.
