Zimbabwe has invited tenders for the construction of the Kunzwi dam project in Murehwa. The project, expected to supply water to Harare and its surroundings, is to be built at the confluence of Nyagui and Nora rivers in Goromonzi District.

The dam is comprised mainly of a zoned earthfill embankment of 50.2m maximum height and a crest length of 2649m. Outlets consist of a concrete intake structure, a ‘Dry tower’, a D-section concrete conduit under the embankment, a spillway with 100m wide ogee crest and a discharge channel excavated in rock.

The dam has an embankment volume of about 4Mm3. The project, which includes the construction of Nora weir, is a masonry structure with flood embankments on the flanks and a combined volume of 18,229m3.
