Technip has won a contract from oil refining company Takreer to provide technology, engineering services and supply of core equipment for a new coke calcination unit in Abu Dhabi.

The value of the contract will range between EUR50m to EUR100m.

Takreer’s new coke calcination unit is part of the Carbon Black & Delayed Coker project, which is being implemented near its existing Ruwais refinery located in the UAE.

Takreer’s new unit will comprise of two trains and will be designed to process 700,000 tons per annum superior-quality anode green petroleum coke through 2 kilns.

The processed coke will be used as anode coke for Abu Dhabi’s growing aluminium industry.

The company will support the engineering, procurement, and construction contractor, Samsung Engineering, to complete the performance testing of the new unit.

Technip Germany managing director Mesut Sahin said, "This contract follows the successful completion of the process design package for this new coke calcination unit for Takreer last year."

The company’s operating center in Düsseldorf, Germany will execute the contract, which is scheduled to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2015, while its operating center in Abu Dhabi will execute the project, which is scheduled for completion in the first half of 2015.
