A survey of senior utilities company executives by PricewaterhouseCoopers have revealed growing awareness of the environment in the power generation industry.

According to the poll from the Global Energy, Utilities & Mining Group, some 72% of utilities are making some investment in demand-side efficiency measures while wind has moved ahead of both piped gas and coal in terms of its expected rise in significance rising to the #1 spot as the most important industry development.

Meanwhile, nuclear generation is also firmly back on the agenda with 45% of utility companies seriously considering nuclear power. Just 12 months ago this figure was 19%.
