SP Energy Networks has commissioned new £22m overhead power line between Legacy, Wrexham and Oswestry, North Shropshire.
The project will boost the security of electricity supplies for more than 130,000 homes and businesses across Mid Wales, North Shropshire and South Wrexham.
Construction has been underway on the project since October 2014, following planning consent in May 2013. The full scheme consists of 5km of underground cables and 21km of overhead wooden pole lines. More than 150 people have been involved in the construction and the design of the project, which is the most significant power upgrade in the region for more than 20 years.
In total SP Energy Networks owns and maintains over 1,200 km of underground cables and nearly 4,000 km of overhead lines across Mid Wales and Dee Valley. Over the next 8 years plans are in place to invest a further £35 million in the local distribution network.
