The addition of Grant Wind project will increase the company’s renewable generation capacity to over 1,600MW.
Southern Power’s portfolio comprises 21 solar, wind and biomass facilities that are either announced, acquired or under construction.
The wind project uses 66 units of Siemens wind turbines and will generate clean electricity to meet the power needs of close to 50,000 average US homes.
Western Farmers Electric Cooperative, East Texas Electric Cooperative and Northeast Texas Electric Cooperative will each purchase 50MW of electricity and associated renewable energy credits (RECs) generated by the facility, under 20-year power purchase agreements.

In March, Southern Power agreed to acquire its first wind project, the 299MW Kay Wind facility from Apex Clean Energy.
The acquisition of Kay Wind is scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2015.
Earlier this month, Southern Power acquired a controlling stake in a 300MW solar power project in California from First Solar for an undisclosed amount.
When fully operational in the third quarter of 2016, the Desert Stateline Facility will generate clean electricity that will be enough to meet the energy needs of nearly 100,000 average homes.
