The companies will set up a joint venture in which Solar Power will hold a majority stake.

The new entity will seek to construct, own and operate solar projects that have already been identified.

Solar Power chairman Xiaofeng Peng said: "The partnership announced today expands our relationship with leading PV developer SDL Solar and marks the establishment of SPI’s presence in Latin America, which we expect to become one of the fastest growing solar markets in the world."

SDL Solar managing member Manny Sakellakis said: "SPI’s proven track record coupled with its financing capabilities will allow SDL Solar to build and implement our projects in the most time efficient manner."

SPI focuses on the downstream photovoltaic (PV) market including the development, financing, installation, operation and sale of utility-scale and residential solar power projects in China, Japan, Europe and North America.
