Canada-based engineering firm SNC-Lavalin secured an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract from Transportadora de Gas Internacional (TGI) for a greenfield compression plant in Cajica, Cundinamarca, Colombia.

Gas compressors will use centrifugal technology and low-noise electric motors, which require no lubricating oils and produce no atmospheric emissions.

The work, which is set for completion in 2015, will be carried out from SNC-Lavalin’s offices in Colombia.

With the addition of a compressor station to its La Sabana gas pipeline, TGI will be able to meet peak local demand for natural gas.

SNC-Lavalin executive vice-president Charles Chebl said, "We are proud to be involved in a project which will help satisfy the increased energy requirements of the people of Colombia."

"Our ability to mobilize a diverse range of expertise will also allow us to help TGI meet that demand sustainably," Chebl added.
