Smit International, a Netherlands-based maritime service provider, has been awarded a four-year contract, with option to extend, by the Kuwait Oil Company to provide assistance to tankers calling at its oil terminals in Kuwait.

Smit will support the various tankers calling at the Kuwait Oil Company’s (KSC’s) shore terminals and a number of single point moorings offshore.

A total of 10 vessels will be deployed which include three smaller tugs of 35 to 45 tbp, two larger tugs of 70 tbp, three pilot boats, one mooring vessel and one crane equipped self propelled work barge.

The majority of these vessels will be new buildings. The contract will commence from July 2008.
