SNC-Lavalin Constructors has awarded a contract to Siemens to deliver main components for the 775MW Keys Energy Center project being developed in Prince George’s County, Maryland, US.

Under the contract, Siemens will supply two SGT6-5000F gas turbines, one SST-5000 steam turbine, two air cooled generators SGen-1000A, and the associated turbine I&C systems for the project, which is owned and operated by Public Service Enterprise Group.

The SGT6-5000F is designed to generate power with fast start-up for peak-, intermediate-, or base-load duty.

Siemens Power and Gas division large gas turbine sales Americas vice-president John Wilson said: "The SGT6-5000F gas turbine offers economical power generation with fast start-up for peak-, intermediate-, or base-load duty.

"With more than 10 million hours of fleet operation this gas turbine achieves peak values for reliability of higher than 99 percent – the highest in its class."

SNC-Lavalin is serving as the main engineering, procurement and construction contractor for the combined-cycle natural gas-fired power project, which is being developed at north of North Keys Road and about 1.25 miles east of Brandywine, Maryland,

Planned to be commissioned in spring of 2018, the facility will generate electricity required to meet energy needs of more than 700,000 households in the suburban Washington, DC.

The power station will feature two combustion turbine generators equipped with dry, low oxides of nitrogen (NOx) combustors; two heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs) with duct burners (DBs); a single condensing steam turbine generator (STG).

The plant will connect to the adjacent Potomac Electric Power (PEPCO)/PJM 500kV transmission line.

Siemens supplied the SGT6-5000F units for use in gas turbine power plants and applications using waste heat including district heating power plants, in combined cycle power plants as well as for integrated gasification (IGCC) applications.

In June this year, PSEG Power had acquired the plant from Genesis Power through its subsidiary PSEG Fossil.
