Under the deals, Siemens will install 42 of its direct-drive turbines at the 60MW Melfi project, the 16MW Cerreto project and a 54MW project near the community of Tricaric.

The company will equip SWT-3.0-113 turbine models at Melfi and the Tricarico projects. An additional five SWT-3.2-113 units will be installed at Cerreto project.

The company plans to commence turbines installation work at the Melfi and Tricarico facilities in the first half of 2016.

Siemens wind power and renewables onshore CEO Thomas Richterich said: "The order awarding process in place since 2012 has resulted in greater cost transparency for onshore wind power projects in Italy.

"We are therefore very pleased that we can highlight the efficiency of our direct-drive D3 wind turbines here and especially for three Italian projects at once within one year."

Siemens said in the order awarding process, developers offer the highest possible discounts from the base rate of EUR 127 per MWh.

Separately, Siemens has been selected to deliver new power supply technology for the broadcasting centre of the German TV station ZDF in Mainz.

The company will replace the existing 20kV medium-voltage switchgear at the centre and modernize the protective relay system in addition to developing an autonomous control system for controlling and monitoring the entire power supply at the center.
