A German newspaper has reported that the German utility RWE is looking at taking a stake in Dutch group Nuon.

The Berliner Zeitung cited unnamed sources in a report suggesting RWE could either take a stake in the Dutch player or acquire it outright. The newspaper added that RWE had no comment to make on the report.

Analysts at Sal Oppenheimer have welcomed the report, commenting that Nuon would be an excellent strategic fit for RWE’s existing operations both in the Netherlands and in Germany.
