The combined cycle power plant, which is in full commercial operation, uses the waste heat from both gas turbines to produce electricity from a steam turbine, thereby increasing the generating capacity of the plant without increasing fuel consumption.

The company has received approval from CAMMESA to permit the second gas turbine to be tied in. All three turbines have been synchronised. This enables Energia del Sur (EdS), under the Argentine government’s Energia Plus programme, to finalise its new premium power purchase agreements.

The company is also negotiating for the debt refinancing of its EdS business through local funds in Latin America and the US.

Rurelec is targeting Argentina, Brazil and Peru for its expansion in the Southern Cone of Latin America.
