Chilean generator Río Turbio has submitted EIA documents for a US$17.8M run-of-river hydro project in Region IV to environmental authority Conama's environmental impact evaluation system SEIA.

The Balalita plant would have 10.9MW capacity from two units and produce some 72.8GWh per year according to the documents. The project includes a 420m transmission line to connect to the 110kV La Serena-El Indio line. Construction is expected to take two years.
