The 10MW biomass facility will use municipal solid wastes to generate electricity, reports The Daily Star.

However, the facility’s power generation capacity depends on the quantity of such wastes, officials were quoted as saying by the publication.

The companies are also planning to build more biomass power plants in Dhaka and other cities of Bangladesh following completion of necessary feasibility studies.

Well Group Industries chief executive officer Syed Nurul Islam said: "Our waste management system is very poor and we can give them (city corporation/municipality) some consultancy on how to manage waste in a better way."

The firms intend to set up more and larger power plants which are based on municipal solid wastes to generate electricity.

Renewable Energy Sources director Foo Cheong Seng said the wastes will be collected by the municipal authorities as usual and mix it up for use and subsequent power generation.
