Reliance Power, a part of Reliance Group, has announced that Boiler Light Up has been achieved for its sixth and last 660MW unit at the 3,960MW Sasan Ultra Mega Power Plant (UMPP), which is located at Sasan, Madhya Pradesh, a state in India. This is considered to be a critical milestone of the boiler commissioning activities for the unit.

Under development by Sasan Power, a wholly owned subsidiary of Reliance Power, the Sasan plant is claimed to be the largest integrated power plant and coal mining project in the world.

The five other units (each with 660MW of capacity) of the project have already been commissioned.

The Sasan UMPP is a pit-head coal-based power plant, and has been allocated three captive coal mine blocks — Moher, Moher Amlori extension and Chhatrasal.

Coal production has already started from the 20MTPA Moher and Moher-Amlohri mines.
