The Baralaba mining project is a joint venture between Cockatoo Coal and JFE Shoji Trade and till now Cockatoo Coal’s Baralaba operations has produced a total of 97,558 tonnes of coal across Baralaba Central and Baralaba North.

The expansion was approved back in May 2014 and the QLD coordinator general approved the construction of the rail load-out facility for the miners.

QLD deputy premier Jeff Seeney said the approval will pave way for major increase in coal output.

"The first part of the mine expansion will enable Cockatoo Coal to expand coal production from 700,000 tonnes a year to one million tonnes."

"This will climb to 3.5 million tonnes per annum by 2015. We promised to grow the resource pillar of our economy and we are delivering on that promise creating more jobs for regional families."

The new train load-out facility will be located adjacent to the existing main rail lines at Baralaba.
