India has agreed to allow Pakistani engineers to visit a dam that has been a subject of dispute between ,the two countries, a Pakistani minister said.

Officials from Pakistan and India had been meeting in Islamabad to discuss India’s construction of the 450MW Baglihar hydropower project on the Chenab river. The river originates in Indian-controlled Kashmir but it is vital to Pakistani agriculture, and Pakistan claims a 1960 treaty permits it a say over the river’s development.

The dam, north of Jammu, is due to be completed by 2004.
