The companies will receive funding under the Binational Industrial Research and Development (BIRD) Energy program, which is an industrial research and development cooperation between the US Department of Energy (DOE) and Israel’s Ministry of National Infrastructure, Energy and Water Resources (MIEW).

A total of six projects have been selected to receive $5.1m funding under the energy program.

Apart from Pristine Sun’s development, projects between 3GSolar Photovoltaics and Arkema; Ayyeka Technologies and UIS Holdings; Haogenplast and Global Solar Energy; Pentalum Technologies and Texas Tech University; Yissum and Applied Biomathematics have been selected for the funding.

A US and an Israeli partner will undertake each BIRD Energy program project, which will address energy challenges and opportunities of interest to both countries.

The projects will focus on commercializing clean energy technologies that enhance economic competitiveness, create jobs, and support new companies.

Pristine Sun CEO Troy Helming said: "We’re very grateful for this partnership with Solaris-Synergy and to have received this award from the US Department of Energy and Israel’s Ministry of National Infrastructure, Energy and Water Resources’ B.I.R.D. Energy program.

"The challenge of building the largest floating solar project in the U.S. was really exciting to us, and we’re thrilled about the prospect of developing more of these projects throughout the world."

Earlier this year, Pristine Sun reached an agreement to build the largest floating solar project in the US.

In March, the company signed an agreement to build Vermont’s largest solar project on a landfill in Brattleboro.
